Withers & Ravenel’s design for Green Level to Durham Road, a four-lane divided thoroughfare with sidewalks and multi-purpose trails connecting to the Town of Cary greenway system, runs parallel to NC Highway 55, a heavily traveled highway linking Cary with Research Triangle Park, and provides a secondary route that will reduce traffic congestion along that corridor. The road crosses Cary Park Lake, so innovative construction techniques were employed to avoid draining the lake and disturbing established ecosystems downstream. In addition, digital models were utilized to provide contractors with accurate data to about subsurface rock excavation, speeding completion and reducing costs.
